3 Things You Must NEVER Do in Business

In business, there are some things you should never do if you want to succeed. Successful entrepreneurs will already be aware of these things but if you are new to the world of business, you may find these three tips very helpful to you.

Rule Number 1: NEVER Skimp on Advertising

If you do not give your business the proper advertising it requires you risk losing sales. Here is an example: a small business that sells children’s audio CDs is introducing a new product. The business is new and practically unknown. All they have is a website and one small advertisement in the local newspaper. With so little exposure, only a handful of people will be aware of this company and its CD. A better advertising plan would have been to place an advert in several, larger newspapers, and running a billboard advertisement that can be seen in a heavily trafficked area. Although these may cost more, it reaches a larger customer base. Any business that doesn’t reach its customers will fail.

Rule Number 2: NEVER Let Your Guard Down with Your Business Competition

Unless your business holds a monopoly, you need to be aware of the competition. Take the example of a video store. As the business owner of a video store, you would want to know what other stores are offering. Do they have a large selection? What are their prices per video per day? Do they offer any specials or discounts? You should keep up on both the smaller video stores as well as the larger video store chains in your area. You should either match what is offered or offer a slightly lower fee because customers love to save money, even if it is only a few dollars and cents.

Rule Number 3: NEVER Jump into a Business Without Doing Thorough Research

Make sure you know all of the details about the business you are involved in. Learn about the financial details as well as any information about your competitors. By taking the time to research a specific business you insure success for yourself. When it comes to your business, the boys’ scouts’ motto “always be prepared” is very apt because you don’t want any nasty surprises popping up. Ideally, you want to be able to set yourself up so that your business operates as smoothly as possible.

Adhere to these guidelines and you should be on the right track to creating a solid base for business success. Always do your homework and have a well thought out plan before making any business decisions. Care for your business like you would your children, giving it what it needs to grow and you will be pleased with the end result.
